The name “Sampientrino”, also known as “Sanpietrini”, derives from the maintenance workers “Sanpietrini” who took care of the furnishings and decorations of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City. The cobblestone in Rome is a pavement made of dark volcanic basalt. The stone is slightly different, each has a particular half – cone shape. They cover the historical center and main streets of Rome and when it rains and they are wet they seem a field of diamonds.
